Everything you need to know about custom static cling

A custom static cling is a thin printed vinyl decal that sticks to glass and other smooth, non-porous surfaces using static electricity instead of glue. That single difference changes everything about how it behaves: there is no sticky adhesive to leave residue, no tape line to scrub off, and no permanent commitment. You press it on, it clings, and when you are done it lifts away cleanly and can be stored flat and reused. Printed with your logo, hours, pricing, safety notice or seasonal promotion, a static cling turns an ordinary window into working brand space.

Because clings are made to order, the right specification depends on where the decal will be seen and how it will be mounted. This guide walks through the clear and white vinyl options, inside-glass versus outside-glass mounting, sizes and die-cut shapes, how the printing and ordering process runs, and how bulk pricing scales with quantity. If you already know what you need, you can request a custom quote at any point.

Why go custom

A branded cling works twice — signage and marketing, with no mess

Painted lettering flakes and permanent decals leave a gummy mess. A custom static cling does the same signage job — displaying your logo, hours, promotions or safety message — while going up and coming down in seconds with zero residue. Whether you are dressing a storefront window, badging a fleet of vehicles, or handing out parking permits, static clings keep your brand sharp and let you swap the message whenever it changes.

Brand visibility

Every window becomes a display. Print your logo, message or offer in full color so your brand reads clearly from the sidewalk or the parking lot.

Clean & reusable

No adhesive means no residue and no scraping. Clings peel off in one piece, store flat, and can be repositioned or reused across seasons.

Made to spec

Choose clear or white vinyl, inside- or outside-glass mounting, any size and any die-cut shape — we match your Pantone brand colors and print runs of any size.

Material & thickness

Static cling vinyl grades: which weight do you need?

Static clings are printed on flexible vinyl measured in mil (thousandths of an inch). Thicker material lies flatter, resists curling, and holds up to repeated removal and reuse — while thinner grades keep unit cost down for short-run promotions. The figures below are typical industry ranges; the exact stock we recommend is confirmed on your quote.

Typical vinyl thickness by grade

Heavier grades lie flatter on glass and tolerate more remove-and-reapply cycles. Ranges are typical; final stock is confirmed on your quote.

How a static cling holds

  • No adhesive — the smooth vinyl clings to glass by static, not glue
  • No residue — lifts off clean, leaving nothing to scrub
  • Repositionable — reapply until the placement is perfect
  • Reusable — store flat between uses and put it back up next season
  • Smooth surfaces only — glass, mirrors, acrylic, glossy metal and plastic

Durability & care

Built to reapply again and again — and keep your brand sharp

Static clings are printed on flexible vinyl that grips glass through static attraction rather than adhesive, so they can be lifted and repositioned without losing their hold. Because there is no glue curing to the surface, removal is clean — no residue, no scraping, no ghosting on the glass. Between uses, a cling can be stored flat on its backing liner and put back up when you need it again, which makes them ideal for seasonal or rotating messaging.

For long, sun-exposed placements, printing and lamination options help colors resist fading, and heavier vinyl grades lie flatter and stand up to more remove-and-reapply cycles. The right choice depends on where the cling will live — a promotional cling that changes monthly and a full-window graphic left up for a season are built and finished differently. Tell us the placement and we will recommend a spec with your quote.

Bulk pricing

How custom static cling pricing works

Static clings are priced per unit, and the per-piece price drops as your quantity climbs. Your final quote depends on four things: size, vinyl type (clear, white or specialty), print complexity (number of colors and any white under-base), and total quantity. Larger runs and simpler die-cuts bring the unit cost down the most.

FAQ

Custom static cling questions, answered

What is a static cling and how does it stay on?
A static cling is a thin printed vinyl decal that adheres to smooth surfaces through static electricity rather than adhesive. There is no glue, so it grips glass and other non-porous surfaces, lifts off clean, and can be repositioned and reused.
How is a static cling different from a sticker?
A sticker uses permanent or semi-permanent adhesive and can leave residue when removed. A static cling has no adhesive at all — it holds by static, so it comes off cleanly and can be reapplied. Stickers suit permanent placement; clings suit temporary, seasonal or rotating messaging.
What surfaces do static clings work on?
Static clings work best on smooth, clean, non-porous surfaces — glass, mirrors, acrylic, glossy metal and glossy plastic. They do not grip textured, rough, painted-matte or porous surfaces well, since those break the flat contact the static needs.
Can static clings be reused?
Yes. As long as the cling stays clean and is stored flat on its backing liner between uses, it can be lifted and reapplied many times. Keeping the surface and the cling free of dust helps it hold on each reapplication.
Do static clings leave any residue?
No. Because there is no adhesive, a static cling peels off in one piece and leaves nothing to scrape or clean — one of the main reasons businesses choose them for windows that change often.
Should I choose clear or white vinyl?
Clear vinyl lets the glass show through and suits storefront doors and showrooms; on clear material a white ink under-base keeps colors vivid. White (opaque) vinyl gives a solid, high-contrast background that makes logos and promotions pop. Tell us the look you want and we’ll recommend the right base.
Can I apply a cling to the inside of the glass?
Yes. Standard clings face outward, while face-adhesive (reverse-printed) clings mount on the inside of the glass and read correctly from the outside — ideal for storefronts where you want the graphic protected behind the window.
How do I apply a static cling without bubbles?
Clean the glass, peel the cling from its liner, position one edge, then smooth it down with a soft cloth or squeegee working out any air. Because clings are repositionable, you can lift and realign until it sits flat and bubble-free.
What sizes and shapes can you make?
Clings can be printed at almost any size, from small window badges and permit stickers to large storefront and full-glass graphics, and die-cut into circles, badges, lettering or your logo outline. Send your dimensions and shape with your quote request.
Can you match my exact brand colors?
Yes. We print to your specified Pantone (PMS) colors, and on clear vinyl we add a white ink under-base so your colors stay accurate and vivid instead of washing out against the glass.
What’s the minimum order for custom static clings?
We produce runs from small starter quantities up to many thousands. The more you order, the lower the per-piece price — request a quote with your target quantity for exact numbers.
What’s the typical turnaround time?
Turnaround depends on size, quantity and artwork complexity. After you approve the proof, most orders move into production promptly — share your event or deadline date in your quote request and we’ll confirm timing.
What artwork format do you need?
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) give the cleanest print, but we can work from high-resolution PNGs or logos too. Send whatever you have and we’ll let you know if we need anything sharper before proofing.
How do I get a quote?
Use the custom quote form with your size, quantity, vinyl type and artwork, or call (929) 605-4397. You’ll get pricing and a production timeline back quickly.
